Sony Ericsson have just signed tennis ace Maria Sharapova as its first global brand ambassador, although this position apparently doesn’t involve promotion of Sony Ericsson’s handsets; instead Sharapova is to be working with Sony Ericsson’s design department on a wide range of accessories and other products.

Maria Sharapove had this comment to make at the announcement by Sony Ericsson: “It is really exciting to be working with a cool brand like Sony Ericsson which has such a strong reputation in the entertainment industry.”

Now just what experience Maria Sharapova has in designing mobile phones and accessories I’m not sure about, but I’m guessing that maybe, just maybe Sony Ericsson will be pulling her sorting name out of the hat on occasion when launching a new product.
