Apparently Virgin Trains are working in cahoots with Vodafone to add 2G and 3G retransmitters to 52 Virgin trains to boost signal to their customers. This project which ends November has brought a 60% rise in successful calls.

Meanwhile the carrier is urging the corporate sector to be careful when using the train as a mobile office or discussing confidential deals as according to a survey 70% of 2000 people admitted to discussing business in public carriages while 20% had said they discussed critical business subjects, and 15% spoke about confidential knowledge. The most worrying aspect of this survey was the fact that 26% of those surveyed confirmed they followed up on an overheard business lead.
