Motorola take position above Apple iPhone 3G in Synergy report

According to the latest report from Synergy Research the Apple iPhone 3G continues to break records, shipping a million handsets in three consecutive quarters.

However, the Apple iPhone 3G is not ranked the number one, as the current number one US mobile phone vendor just happens to be Motorola, with 25 percent, and in Q2 08, Motorola was the only vendor posting double digit drops for both annual and sequential growth.

Senior Analyst, Synergy Research Group, Aaron Vance, said: “Despite the rock star status of the Apple iPhone, the Blackberry (RIM) dominates the US market with a market share of 46 percent (first half of 2008) versus Apple’s 15 percent. But with iPhone’s continued strong success, which only took Apple a year to achieve a number 2 ranking, it may be sooner than later that Apple is challenging the Blackberry, a notion that would have seemed impossible to many a year or two ago.”
