Criminals can now be traced by examining text messages?

Under: News Date: September 8th, 2008

There is now a new line of catching criminals apparently, as language experts and ecologists join together to help the police in catching criminals by viewing the suspect’s text messages.

These experts are adapting methods of studying ocean life to identify unidentified text authors by the use of their grammar, syntax of words, and spelling used.

Analysis of text messages in the investigation of the disappearance of Jenny Nicholl in 05 showed text messages sent from Nicholl’s mobile phone were more than likely written by murder suspect David Hodgson.

Scientists are now compiling a database of text messages that have been donated by volunteers, and will look at distinctive differences in style and language.
