Sony Ericsson W707 renamed Alicia: Why?

Under: Mobile Phones, News, Sony Ericsson Date: September 12th, 2008

The Sony Ericsson “Alicia” is a new walkman clamshell design mobile phone which actually appeared some time ago, but the word on the net waves is that it not be released under its official name of Sony Ericsson W707.

Just why there is a need to keep renaming mobile handsets baffled me somewhat, just what is wrong with a phones original moniker these days? And it’s not just Sony Ericsson who are at it either.

Take for instance the BlackBerry Thunder, why when it goes elsewhere does it need to be called the Blackberry Storm? Why does any mobile phone require a renaming, does it make it sell better?
