Future Sony Ericsson Xperia phones may not use Windows mobile platform

At the launch of Sony Ericsson digital market campaign on Monday, the handset maker said that future Sony Ericsson phones launched under its new Xperia brand may not be based on Microsoft Windows.

The Sony Ericsson X1, which will be shipped later this month will be Sony Ericssons premium phone, the X1 will be Sony Ericssons first handset powered by Windows Mobile onto the smartphone market. But both Japan’s Sony and Sweden’s Ericsson was hesitant to divulge any information regarding future handsets to be launched under the Xperia brand, saying that the brand is not tied to any specific technical platform. The X1 is the first handset to go under the Xperia brand name.

The Sony Ericsson X1 has up to nine applications such as video, internet browsing and email all running simultaneously, its Sony Ericssons most advanced smartphone, with fast upload and download speed from the internet depending on where you are and network availability, it also has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen.
