Apple iPhone app that attracts iPhone thieves?

Under: Apple iPhone, News, Phone Software Date: September 19th, 2008

The Apple iPhone is a very attractive and profitable mobile handset for thieves who are keen to trade the iPhone for a few hundred bucks, and while Apple has introduced security measures to keep the memory secure, up until now there hasn’t been a way to locate and retrieve an appropriated Apple iPhone.

However, iPhone developer Mike Schneider believes ha may have the answer with Private-I which is a LoJack for the iPhone. Apparently this $0.99 application will automatically detect its current location via its GPS or triangulation features and send off an email to a user defined email address.

One drawback is for the iPhone to send the warning email, the thief would need to access and open the application via the iPhone’s home screen. The app has been designed to attract the thief though as it prominently advertises the word “PRIVATE.”
