Faulty Apple iPhone 3G USB power adapter recalled and exchanged

Under: Accessories, Apple iPhone Gadgets, News Date: September 20th, 2008

Due to an electrical hazard with their iPhone 3G Ultra Compact USB Power Adapters, Apple has put out a recall of the device for exchange. Apparently the small cube AC adapter which is bundled with all new Apple iPhone 3G’s, has a problem with the metal prongs breaking off and remaining in the socket.

Apple says: “We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.”

Apple is to begin exchanging the faulty adapters through their retail stores and online as of October 10th and the charging units that have a green dot imprinted on the bottom are safe so do not need to be exchanged.
