The latest word coming out from Acer who is best known for their computer laptops is that they are to launch their own branded mobile phones in Q1 of 2009.
According to senior corporate vice president and president of IT product business group at Acer, Jim Wong, the mobile phones will have an initial shipping targets of Western Europe and Russia.
Presumably relying on their brand name with the computing arena, Acer expects the mobile handset business to be a growth driven over three years. Acer is expanding its employment in their handset business unit to take on a further 500 employees by the years end.
