New legislation to outlaw mobile phone use in prisons

Under: Mobile Phones, News Date: September 26th, 2008

As the underworld crime bosses use mobile phones to run their criminal empires from behind bars it has been confirmed that mobile phone blockers are to be used, and that the current penalty of 30 days is to be raised to 2 years in most serious cases.

Mobile phones are commonly used in prisons, according to a document on the forthcoming Criminal Justice and Licensing Bill, and are becoming harder to detect.

This new legislation will specifically outlaw the use of mobile phones in prisons and is likely to come before Parliament early next year.
