An engineering report released by the FCC could open the door for the FCC to assign a piece of wireless spectrum aside for free internet services.

According to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, some spectrum is required to be reserved for free broadband services and it would be a lifeline broadband service for lower income people that otherwise may not gain access to the internet.

A warning has come from T-Mobile to the FCC saying that the FCC’s proposed launch of an AWS in the 2155-MHz to 2180-MHz band will interfere with their 3G wireless services. However after running tests the FCC has said devices operating at FCC designated levels will not present a significant risk of harmful interference.
