Nickel in mobile phones cause skin dermatitis?

Under: News
Date: October 19th, 2008

The latest in mobile phone health scares appears to be the nickel, as now there are claims of mobile phone users breaking out in rashes on their faces and ears, which apparently is brought about by an allergic reaction to the nickel often found in mobile phone casing and buttons.

According to the British Association of Dermatologists, this experience is being seen in those who spend an excessive amount of time on their mobile phone.

It is thought that about 30% of the UK’s population is allergic to nickel, and this link to mobile phones has been identified in several published case reports. Women are particularly prone to “mobile phone dermatitis,” as experts say they are more likely to have been sensitized to nickel through jewellery.
