Apple iPhone 3G knocks Motorola RAZR of best selling top spot

The Apple iPhone 3G has out sold the top ranking Motorola RAZR according to leading market research group NPD. The Apple iPhone 3G knocked the Motorola RAZR off the top slot as the leading mobile handset purchased by adult consumers in the United States.

An NPD press release stated: “The displacement of the RAZR by the iPhone 3G represents a watershed shift in handset design from fashion to fashionable functionality.”

The Motorola RAZR had been ranked as the number one selling consumer handset by NPD for the past twelve quarters. But even with the strong interest in the Apple iPhone 3G, adult consumer purchases slid 15 percent year over year in the 3rd quarter to 30m units.

The top 5 handsets based on sales during Q3 are now… the Apple iPhone 3G…Motorola RAZR V3…BlackBerry Curve…LG Rumor…and LG enV2.
