Mobile phone battery life extended by 90%?

Under: News
Date: November 12th, 2008

The word is some South Korean researchers have managed to develop a technology which makes Lithium batteries up to ninety percent more energy efficient than the batteries we use now.

Chemistry professor at Hanyang University, Cho Jae-phil, and leader of the research team claims that battery live of mobile phones and laptop computers can be extended 8 times longer than conventional batteries when using this new tech.

This was achieved by the team replacing graphite as the main material of the negative electrode with 3 dimensional porous silicon particles made from hydrogen fluoride and silica. The team has applied for 4 basic technology patents for the battery in Korea, the US and the EU, and they believe commercial production could begin in 4-5 years.
