What will the G2 Android Phone bring us?

The Google Android based T-Mobile G1 has now been out for a while, and even though it sort of came into the mobile arena rather subdued it has gained a following, with several android based forums being set up. There are also other companies looking at producing their own android based smartphones.

And although the T-Mobile G1 started off with a few problems such as security issues and such, the android platform phone seems on the surface to be doing well, there is now even the Android Market for downloading applications and apps are being added frequently.

So putting the T-Mobile G1 aside for a moment, and looking towards the future and probably the next generation android phone, let’s call it the G2. What do you reckon the G2 will bring to the mobile world, what are your thought on what you would like the Android G2 to have, or do you think it will go to some other carrier than T-Mobile?

So G1-ers, what will the G2 Android Phone bring us?

    for starters, G2 would benefit if it gets:
    – multi-touch screen – if there’s a way to go around Apple’s patent;
    – virtual/soft/on-screen keyboard;
    – 3.5mm audio jack, while keeping the USB for USB purposes;
    – more on-board memory – maybe an 8gb default keeping the current memory card option for expansion;
    – make the accelerometer orientation sensor work when tilting the phone from “portrait” to “landscape” mode;

    Market Place:
    – VLC for Android;

    I’ve been a t-mobile customer for 12 years. I wanted to get the G1 SOOOO bad cause I refuse to buy an iPhone and the blackberry storm looks like a clunker. But here’s why I’m going to stick with my BB pearl in the mean time.

    1) The G1 looks like crap. The Razr sold well not because it was a great phone, but because it looked cool. That’s also a huge reason the iPhone does so well. Let’s face it, phones have become fashion accessories, and although I’m definately a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy, even *I* want to carry a phone that looks cool!

    2) Where is the heaphone jack? Oh you mean I have to go find that little adaptor thingy to listen to music? Well I think I left it at home, it’s probably sitting on my desk. Or, more likely, it’s sitting in a pile somewhere with all the other adaptors I never use cause adaptors SUCK! Spend another $.12 to add a headphone jack!

    3) My old Nokia that came FREE with my T-Mobile plan in 2005 could record video, WITH SOUND. Sure the resolution and sound quality was crap and it didn’t record very long, but it was there. Maybe I’m not hip to all the technical hurdles with adding video capture capabilities to a phone, but it seems like this should be easy.

    4) Did I mention the G1 is really frikkin ugly?

    5) Keep the trackball! Keep the slide-out keyboard!

    6) Seriously….I’m not kidding…..the G1 looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every stick on the way down!

    Evan!
