iPhone 2.2 update: Are you experiencing issues and problems?

Under: Apple iPhone, News Date: November 21st, 2008

Apple recently launched the iTunes 8.0.2 update, and now has released the Apple iPhone 2.2 update which is 246MB and incorporates several new features, one of which is a new feature to Google Maps, StreetView.

There have been some whispers about problems with the 2.2 update hitting the net waves concerning this new iPhone 2.2 update, although THE Google StreetView runs well on WiFi and great on 3G.

Other features with the iPhone 2.2 update are over-the-air podcast downloads improved sound quality for visual voicemail, mail enhancements, public transit, Safari tweaks, but alas still no copy & paste in the iPhone 2.2.

But back to those whispers, iPhoners are reporting several problems after downloading and installing 2.2, for example one iPhoner found they were unable to delete emails; another the download failed and when iTunes gave an error he continued and now his Apple iPhone is stuck with an iTunes screen. There is also a report that the auto-brightness fails to work properly.

Yes, the 2.2 failed for me. The 2.1 update worked fine back when. 2.2 downloaded OK and updated started and then Itunes reported an error saying the updated failed to complete and is now going through the famous restore.

Apple QA? Non - existent. This sucks.

Touch screen freezes constantly. Reboots wont help. You have to unlock the keyboard and interact with the screen quickly, otherwise it goes unresponsive after 2 seconds. Apple has already replaced my old iPhone 3G (which I had from July and which worked perfectly until after update to 2.2), because it failed in a similar manner. Maybe those changes they have made to the iPhone OS API affected the third party apps (I have 49 installed) and that causes iPhone to malfunction?

I just updated to itunes 8 and then tried to download the 2.2 update for my iphone 3G. I am stuck with the frozen screen with the itunes logo and the usb arrow picture. I tried a different usb port, tried reinstalling itunes, held down the home and sleep buttons for more than 10 seconds until the mac icon comes up- and Nothing. I tried restarting my computer as well. My phone is totally frozen right now. I’m dyin over here. Anyone have any ideas ?

Problems here too, had mine for 2 weeks, then updated to 2.2, it said error then I got the screen witth the USB cable and itunes logo. i called tech support, was on the phone for 2.5 hours to no luck, them telling me I was the only person they knew of that had that problem. He said they would overnight me an empty box, it never came after a week, so i called back they suggested the advanced replacement for 29.99. Then they put a 450.00 hold on my debit card. I got my new one on Monday, and it was an old version, everything i did it said it had to be updated to work, well it frooze too. Call back to tech support, 2 hour call, with the girl telling me once again they have had no other people with that problem.would not fix my phone without deleting and re-installing itunes, even though i had just done it the week before. So after buying a 200.00 phone then paying 31.00 after tax for a new one i still don’t have the phone. not happy. i was thinking about buying a apple notebook, but i think i’ll go with the dell. thanks for listnening

Can’t delete E-Mails, battery life sucks, & can’t zoom into photos anymore… pictures look blurry when you try.

    December 25th, 2008 | 2:40 amDavid

Mark you’re not the only one with that message man I got it too but of course they’re gonna tell you you’re the only one with the problem. I would invest in a notebook instead of dell though. I got that, a Macbook pro, I Mac, & quad pro, and I run heavy audio for music production. their computers are really good.

Got the exact same thing…itunes logo with the usb logo dont know how to fix it…

Ok this is confirmed to work to this problem:

What I did was uninstall itunes and made sure to uninstall anything else that had to do with itunes. Here’s a link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925

I also made sure to uninstall the apple mobile device from the device manager (the thing with the yellow exclamation point) and also the Apple Mobile Device Support from “Add or Remove Programs”.

After that I restarted the computer and installed itunes again: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Once all of that was finished, I opened itunes and then connected my iphone 3G to the computer. The ipod was detected and it prompted me to restore the ipod.

I hope this helps anyone who had this problem.
