LG Cookie KP500 Review: Its no iPhone

The LG KP500 Cookie, is LG’s attempt to give the world an affordable touch-screen handset, and it is a nice looking mobile phone that doesn’t hold a cheap feel, actually the LG KP500 Cookie is very similar to the LG Renoir.

But that’s about where LG Renoir resemblance ends, as the LG KP500 Cookie’s specs are less attractive than its looks, the best feature being its 3 megapixel camera apart from its touch-screen of course.

The LG KP500 Cookie doesn’t have 3G or WiFi so that’s one big downer for this handset which apparently is to be launched in the UK at the end of November with a price tag of around £100.00. A Renoir it isn’t an Apple iPhone no way.

    Got the LG Cookie KP500, very good phone very impressed. I was worried that I would not get on with this phone as its touch screen but no problem couple of days you’ll get use to it! I find it easier to use my fingers instead of the stylus pen but then agen my fingers and not big so for the bigger finger people the stylus pen would be for you. Get this phone if not your missing out. Got everything you need for only £100.

      it is in argos now at 90.00 i think and if you are signed up to orange then u can upgrade ur phone and get a new lg cookie for free … hope this helps

    FAO: Chris – Carphone Warehouse do them – you should be able to buy one as a PAYG in store without any issues afaik – currently £97.82 when bought with £10 airtime.

    i bought it yesterday!!! its good phone, i am 12 but i turned 13 last november… i dunno if there are some things that isnt good about it, it may be the screen cause sometimes it can’t really detect the touch of my finger or stylus

    Im 13, from Herefordshire. I was origonally going to get this phone on PAYG but the men in the shop (CPW) persuaded my mum to go on contract. Its a good deal.

    The phone is ment for christmas, but I have had a good play on it. Its a great phone, very fun. Lots of great features including 3.2mp camera, great games and good memory (well reasonable). I handed my old handset into CPW and got £20 back, not quite sure how it works, but I bought a memory card from it. Cant wait till i get it all set up and going. Although CPW rang yesturday and told my mum they had given the wrong phone out, they said it was a demo phone!! :O I was pretty shocked they could make that mistake. But nothing really seemed different. Anyhow, they swapped it today and told me to give it a good charge, so earlier I put it on charge and it said ‘no sim inserted’. Im going back tomorrow to get it sorted. But I know its the sim because me and my sister tried each others sims in each others phones and her sim worked in both phones, whereas mine didnt. Not very happy with it.
    Another thing, Ive read LOADS of reviews and some of them say the phone reboots itself (turns itself off). I asked a friend about it because her best mate has this phone and it did it to her. I asked what did she do, and she said it happened for about a week, but has been fine ever since. It hasnt happened to me while ive played on the phone but if it does, I will probably go back to CPW.
    Some people have said the touch screen is hard to get used to, but its not. I got an iPod touch earlier this year as a bday present and that was really quick to get used to. Also when messaging, the Cookie has:
    -handwriting recognition
    -predictive text
    -normal
    which I think is really good.

    hey, what’s this phone like?? i’m getting it for christmas 😀 it looks good but is it easy to text on. would you be able to send a quick text under a table? lol!! stupid question but if I ever have to text someone in a lesson urgently then would i be able to do it as easy as if it had buttons with the hand-writing recognition??

    Hi, i got the LG viewity for christmas and ive been told i need to take it back because after about 6 months everything starts to brake.

    i am buying this fone tomorrow with my christmas money.
    my friend got the same fone for christmas and it is so klass like and the memerey card is pure cheap for a 2GB like.
    my friend said the call time is pure good coz she hasn’t even spent £1 yet and she has called 3 people and txt 4 people.. so the fone is really good can’t wait to get it tomorrow ..

    I got this phone for christmas and i found it the best phone i have ever had! of course, it is no iphone, but what do you want for £100?! it is an amazing phone,, and is really easy to text on, with 5 different text settings you are sure to find the right type of style for you!! you could write it,, with handwriting recognition, or text normally, or type on the QWERTY keyboard,, whatever you like!! hopw this helps!

    Dave.. you can turn it off..
    go settings -> profiles -> normal -> then choose wether you want message tone on or not, ringing sound on or not and all the rest.

    Do not get the phone it is a load of rubbish it turns itself of right when your in the middle of something, it freezes and turns really slow, my messaging cannot use T9 now for sum strange reason I strongly would not recommend this phone.

    no it doesnt.
    crap memory i suggest you buy a memory card with it. on amazon, 4gb for like £4.
    its good for the money.
    texting is pretty easy, but slow when you try to type fast. and i miss teting on a normal phone 🙁

    and can you turn the shutter sound off on the camera, cos even though the fone is on silent… the camera still clicks when take a picture!

    I am sure there’s better phones on the market than this one. Check out more phones before you get this one.

    If you have enough money to get an iphone, then I would recommend the iphone 16GB. It’s just under £400. Check out the the Carphone Warehouse website at the iphone and other phones. I have the iphone 3G and I would definitely recommend it.

    Hey, i seen this phone on the CPW website and i’m not completely sure whether i should purchase it or not. I have read both good and bad reviews about it and after reading the bad reviews i’m not sure what to do. I mean i think it’s ok for the features it has but i heard that it turns of automatically and freezes. ??

    I can’t really afford an iPhone so i was considering this phone. I read that it has similar features to the iPhone.

    All i want to know (from someone who has this phone at the moment) is whether i should buy it?

    thisphone is good, i recommend it. before i got it i read a lot of bad reviews, so i was worried about it. yes its turned itself off on me a couple of times. but nothing can be done about it. its not a huge hassel anyway. and it isnt like all the time or anything. yes it has bluetooth.. and a data cable. i have had it for a while now (since christmas) and i can almost text without looking.. and thats difficult without buttons! anyway, hope this helps.. and dont be put off by the bad reviews, if you want it and can deal with the minor issues, i really recommend it :):) x

    well it isnt i have it and i read reviews saying it would be good and bad
    but some people switch itself off or freeze
    mines never done that but if it does just take the battery out and put it back in

    and the annoying thing is the noise when it takes a picture.

    everything about it is good u just need a memory card u can get a 2gb one from carphone warehouse for £11.99

    I like the touch screen, Its not as sensitive as i thought it would be, so its easily worked. The phone does have some nice features for the money. The texting can be quite annoying at times if your trying to respond to a message quickly, but if you take your time its fine. The phone is also supplied with a pull out pen, and if you tilt the phone sideway, you will see an on screen keypad, which makes texting easier. Theres also hand recognition for texting, if you like that. That camera isnt the best the market is offering right now compared to the 5mp and 8mp cameras now on offer. For the 3mp, the pictures arent bad, but if you are looking to take pictures a digital camera would be a better option than a mobile phone. There is a slot on the side of the phone, so you can expand your memory with an sd memory card. You can buy one of these for around £2-£3, online. As for suitable, it depends on what your asking, suitable for what? Its a nice phone, and worth the money. It offers a great alternative to the other costly touch screens on the market. The screen is very easily smudged by finger marks, so bear that in mind that you will need to constantly clean your screen.

    sometimes that means it just constantly Locks the Screen, my friend has this phone and she said it just locks the screen constantly. all that you have to do is unlock the screen by pressing the Lock/Unlock button

    the cookie works better than id expected, i recently downgraded from a htc hd toutch (iphone rival) that sells at around £400 to this an honestly was shocked this looks good easily personalised themes, pics an ringtones ect. so easy to text an email barely use the stylus ( altho ebay sells spares an cases all new )

    was so impressed i got the mrs’ one in pink just dont tell i got it for £97 shes over the moon with it.

    Hi Ellaa. The appearance would be damaged easily, as to scratches ect if you drop it. I cannot say weather the phone itself would stop working, it would all depend on how hard it hits the ground. I would suggest getting yourself a little cotton pouch for the phone to protect it.

    everyone who says this phone is bad is soooooo full of shit. i mean, of corse the iphone is better, but this is an affordable touch phone…unlike apple who’ll charge u like…a billion quid.

    also, if ur not sure weather to get this phone or not…i would get it! but if u want it for really fast texting, i wouldn’t. u cant really text under a table with it cos u can’t be sure where the keys are unlike a normal phone…

    you cant say this phone is rubbish if you dont have it. and the iPhone is like 45 a month which is quite ridiculous when you can get a good one for 100….. and most of us are like 12 and 13 so it would be a bit stupid if we just spent that much on a phone when you could spend it on loads more and still have the lg cookie. and thanks every one for the reviews its helped a lot:D.

    Hi Tori. I have not had any problems with the phone turning itself off. I think its a great phone for its value and im pleased with it. You will get used to the touchscreen. I find it easy now. Ive had mine fore a few weeks. Texting is still a bit awkward with the touch, but everything else is fine.

    hi guys! i’m kenneth from the Philippines. I bought this phone a week ago and found no problems, really no problems at all! Yes its true that it turns off in first-time use (happened 2 times for me on the day i bought this) but i just removed the battery,restarted the phone and it works again! after that, for a week now, the restart problem never happened again.

    I recommend this phone to every one. great value for a great gadget! i enjoyed using kp500 than my old O2 xda phone. LG KP500 IS ONE OF THE BEST PHONE IN THE MARKET RIGHT NOW, I SWEAR!!

    Reasonable camera
    loud music
    good features
    bluetooth works
    (i dont think it freezes)
    the touch isn’t breakable
    uu get used to touch (and this is my first 1 and i find it brill and i havnt had it that long)

    i love my phone to pieces and i can text pretty fast on it but not as much as i can on a non touch phone and it gets annoying…

    since some people ask for bad points im jsut gona say the only bad but not like horrific points i find is

    camera cant get put on silent
    erm… i accidentally didnt know what formatted means and deleted all the pictures of my memory card…
    and thats it really….
    and it can be confusing if your a bit … easy confused…

    anyway..

    Hey, I got the LG cookie today and Im a bit confused on what SIM initialising is. I have saved my contacts on my previous phone onto the sim card, I put the sim card into the cookie and it keeps saying SIM initialising. Its been saying that for the past 2 hours now XD When i try to add a contact it says Handset full.

    Also how do I change the ringtone on the phone?

    Other than that everything else is great. This is my first time that I’ll have a phone with blutooth as well ^_^ so this should be interesting XD

    DOES IT BREAK EASILY?: No more than most other phones. Try find an after-market soft phone case to minimize damage should you drop it. The screen is prone to scratching if the screen protector isn’t used and it does get grubby with fingerprints quite easy, but nothing a good scrub won’t cure 😉

    I have the lg cookie in pink and it is a great phone.
    Bluetooth works quickly, doesnt cut you off, good battery lasting, loads of things to do,

    Its really easy to use and its stylish and up to date

    I got a really good deal with my phone, its on an 18 month contract, 12 months free, and 200 minutes and 200 texts, all for just around £6 a month, and the actual phone was free. I am really pleased with the phone and would reccommend it to anyone.

    I got this phone in january and i loved it, but by march it was starting to do my heading, especially the texting. So a couple of weeks ago i changed to the samsung tocco ultra, this is the best fone yet but i think this is because its touch screen like the lg but theres a keypad to type. I liked the lg but it was getting slow and the texting was getting annoying, like i was typing a word and it would be on the word before. but all in all its an okay fone.

    I quite like this phone. But i have had some problems. Ive had it about 6months.
    It is quite often switching itself off, and a feew times it has reset itself and ive lost a lot of things.
    I have some good games and good features. It can get quite fiddly but is orite.

    This is a good phone, but sometimes there are problems, like you get with any phone. I have had problems but it happens rarely and they are not major problems. The touchscreen is very good because it is not overly sensitive.

I’ve now lost all of my musi9c, viedos, photos, etc from my memory card, and it had so many memories on. Does anyone know how to help me fix it?

    i have the lg cookie but i find that whenever i put on screen cover there are white circles coming onto the screen. i do not know if it is the way i put it on. i also found that the stylus scratches my screen. does it happen to anyone elses? apart from these 2 the phone is great. 4.5/5

    Nope this is nothing like the navigator phone. The Lg Cookie Is a good phone but it has it’s bad points. They go off whilst in your handbag or pocket. They also have a tendancy to change settings whilst in your pocket too. It also sends messages by itself and rings people if you unlock it by accident. It is extremely touch sensative which can get annoyng.

    My son got a cookie about two months ago he had no problems with it till recently. due to the unlock button being on the touch screen when he has had it in his pocket it has unlocked itself and then phoned people. This happened on a number of occasions and he lost about £10 credit. has anyone else noticed this problem? is there any way of overcoming it?

    my cousin got it about a yr ago and i use it sometimes. ok phone but… touch is a bit crappy, lack of 3G and WiFi and also occasional shutting off is frustrating, no double camera (back and front) and i dont really like the user interface. the camera although 3MP takes blurry pictures most of the time (dunno y). i’d say if u r on a budget and ABSOLUTELY INSISTS on prepaid (not that this phones only available on prepaid) this phone would be good). i, on the other hand was allowed to get the nokia 5800 on a $25 rollover cap plus from virgin- in aus that is (its now available on $19 plan)- and its great (has 3G, GPS, WiFi, HSDPA, IM (yahoo, msn etc) email capability etc, great apps and games to download from ovi, 3.2″ touchscreen, accelerometer and everything) and is really tough. so if you are allowed to go on a plan get the nokia 5800 (its $349 on prepaid in au currently if u insist on it). oops sorry for going off topic >.< . anyways back on LG cookie good phone to get if u love prepaid and touchscreen =]

    Well, i have this phone and it has never turned of by itself, though i have only had it since christmas day. i love texting on it, as people can see you and everyone thinks its a ‘cool phone’. it is, and it’s fine! i love it. you need a memory card, though.

    Got this LG phone for Christmas very good phone easy to use especially for touch screen beginners comes with, radio, great sound system, 3.0mega pixel cam, ready games, ringtones you can have for individual people, you can have for all and you can have for messages which i like best, all files are neat and tidy, each to use touch screen 90% review only downer is theres no light when taking pictures so there dark and no zoom either other than that top marks from me 🙂

    this phone’s calibration is bad i reset my calibration everyday and i get it on the points its starting to be annoying. my phone also plays music and i try to turn it off and i doesnt my phone freezes and when it can turn off the screens blank and the music still plays :S why is this ??

    How do you get the shutter tone removed on the camera? Even if the phone is on silent, It still makes a noise when you use the camera and it's beginning to bug me.. I've had the phone for over 2 years now and I still can't figure it out… Help anyone? 😀

    when i use the internet on my phone it restarts the phone if i go to use anything on the page i.e pressing search button on google, any help please to try stop this happening
