RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip switch from Motorola Razr

Under: BlackBerry, Motorola, Phone Debates Date: December 12th, 2008

I read an article over at CrackBerry about a woman who has just swopped her beloved Motorola Razr (NYSE:MOT) for the gorgeous RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, well considering that until the Apple iPhone (NASDAQ:AAPL) came along the Motorola Razr was the biggest selling mobile phone of all time would Research in Motion and the BlackBerry Flip win her over and impress?

Originally BabeBerry (this is what CrackBerry refers to as the woman who was switching between the two phones) had said wasn’t a fan of the BlackBerry device due to preferring a phone rather than a computer at her ear and two that BlackBerry users came over to her as obnoxious but with the iPhone 3G taking over she thought it was time to give BlackBerry a try.

With the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 being a flip phone it was an instance attraction for BabeBerry, the features she liked most about the phone was the way it looked, although she did think it was more bulky than the Motorola Razr, she also preferred the buttons on the pearl flip, she much preferred texting on the BlackBerry and loved the way you could close the phone and you wouldn’t lose the text you were writing.

She liked the dual screen and the notification messages on the Pearl Flip, and was extremely impressed with the built in Flash, she seemed fascinated with the cute emotions you can add to texts with the BlackBerry and the ease you can send picture messages, the conference calls were a major plus for her girly outings.

The thing that irritated BabeBerry the most on the Motorola Razr was the annoying repeating noise she got when she received a text, adding that until you read the message it would continue to beep, I think we can safely say that this Razr girl has been converted to a full on BlackBerry User.

I have seen lots of criticism about the Razr form factor.
How can Pearl have a good review if it’s an “obsolete” and boring form factor and not a touch phone?

The RAZR is still the #1 selling phone of all time. A year ago it had sold over 150 million. It’s likely well past 200 million now. The iPhone is shooting for 10 million by the end of the year.
