3G licenses will be issued by China Tomorrow

Under: News, Phone Business & Stocks Date: January 6th, 2009

According to Sina.com, third-generation (3G) mobile phone licenses will be issued in China tomorrow.
The information in the report was said to be from a source close to the matter, and claimed that China Unicom (NYSE:CHU), China Telecom (NYSE:CHA) and China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) three of China’s mobile telecom operators may not get licenses all at once.

But it is thoughts that the first telecom operator to receive the 3G license will be China Mobile, allowing them to operate a TD-SCDMA network.

China’s State Council gave its approval for 3G licenses to be issued on December 3, 2008. The 3G licenses issued will be use with CDMA2000, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA technologies.

The reports suggest that China Telecom will use CDMA2000 and China Unicom will use WCDMA.
