Consider the blind says Stevie Wonder at CES 2009

With the rapid progress of the mobile phone and the touchscreen interface, mobile phones are changing and moving away from the press keys, but what about those who are visually impaired?

The touchscreen can cause problems for those considered legally blind, and it is for that reason music’s legendary Stevie Wonder turned up at CES 2009, to ask manufacturers to consider the visually impaired when they design a mobile phone.

Stevie Wonder said: “We don’t want to hold up technological progress. What we’re saying is, think about the interface and set it up in such a way that it’s simple. The simpler you make the user interface of a product, it’s going to reach more people sighted or blind.”

Good to see someone famous bringing this to the notice of the mobile manufacturers, and its not just within the mobile phone area either.
