The mobile phone game seems to be not about the mobile handset any more but rather about the applications and the applications store and to that effect Nokia is apparently about to open their own applications store for their Symbian OS.

Word has it that Nokia has actually already got their app store running and is going through tests behind the scenes and a formal announcement is expected during the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona.

Obviously with the likes of Apple, Palm, BlackBerry, Samsung and Android all pushing out app stores it was only a matter of time before Nokia joined the band wagon.
