Symbian S60 mobile phones under attach by new Trojan

Under: News, Phone Software Date: February 23rd, 2009

Watch out all you Symbian S60 mobile phone toting fans out there as apparently there is a new mobile phone virus which targets Symbian handsets according to several security firm researchers.

The worm carries a signed Symbian certificate and spreads via sending malicious links through SMS to every number in the mobile phones memory.

The threat has been characterised as a Trojan by F-Secure due to its data stealing capabilities and social engineering tech. The malware attempts to hide by running under “EConServer.exe,” which is a twist of “EComServer.exe.” However, if the Symbian App Manager is available it can be uninstalled just like any other software, but it does try to kill anything that tries to identify it.
