Apple iPhone app revenue could suffer from jailbreak stores

Under: Apple iPhone, Mobile Phones Date: March 10th, 2009

There is no doubt the Apple iTunes App Store has been a huge success story for Apple bringing in untold revenue, but with the jailbroken iPhone and the arrival of Cydia Store and the like, Apple’s app revenue is bound to suffer.

Mobile downloads for the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod Touch have been growing at a rate of at least double that of the launch of Apple iPod music sales which also has been a great success.

But Apple’s restrictions have lead to the jailbroken iPhone and jailbreak app stores, something that will obviously grow if Apple doesn’t rethink their restrictions, and if they don’t then app revenue will undoubtedly suffer. Better to allow and get part of the revenue than restrict and get none.
