It appears that the world economic downturn is just about hitting everybody, including the makers of smartphones as according to a post on zdnet, Google Android T-Mobile G1 and Magic smartphone maker HTC’s 1st quarter net profit slipped down 30% from last year.

HTC are obviously best known for the T-Mobile G1 and of course their HTC Touch range of smartphones. HTC has said their net profit dropped to $146.7 million USD that’s 4.89 billion New Taiwan dollars in the 3 months ending the 31st of March down from NT$6.94 billion the previous year.

Revenue fell 3.4% and this slump comes despite good performance at the end of 08; even in Feb 09 HTC estimated sales of their smartphone would grow by double digit percent in 09.
