iPhone in Russia non seller Russian operators liable to fines

Under: Apple iPhone
Date: May 23rd, 2009

It appears the Apple iPhone isn’t doing too well in Russia, which is causing a problem for Russian mobile operators as to get the iPhone 3G in Russia, the mobile operators originally signed contracts with Apple which committed them to selling millions of iPhones over the next 2 years.

The problem for them is that as the iPhone hasn’t sold well they are now facing hundreds of millions of fine from Apple states unwired view.

Apparently in the first 6 months from launch only 127 iPhone 3G handsets were sold and if this rate continues the total sold over the next 18 months will amount to around 550,000 leaving a figure of between 2 and 2.5 million iPhones unsold when payment comes due.
