New iPhone 3G S 2009 with fingerprint-resistant coating

Under: Apple iPhone
Date: June 11th, 2009

It’s got to be said, one of the biggest annoyances with touch screen smartphones has to be fingerprints. So far no matter what smartphone you get if it has a touch screen you’ll be forever wiping away those annoying fingerprints.

However, that may be somewhat alleviated with the new iPhone 3G S 2009 as a review on Cnet shows the iPhone 3G S has a multi-touch screen which repels skin oil.

Apparently they came across this info while browsing how to clean the iPhone which states “If your iPhone has an oleophobic coating on the screen (iPhone 3G S only), simply wipe your iPhone’s screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oil left by your hands and face.”

We learn via Wikipedia that “Oleophobic refers to the physical property of a molecule that is repelled from oil.” Now although this coating on the iPhone 3G S won’t stop fingerprinting it will make then easier to remove.
