Commissioners banned from using BlackBerry phones and laptops for messaging

Under: BlackBerry, Mobile Phones
Date: August 14th, 2009

According to an article on northescambia.com, it is expected that Escambia County Commission will approve a new policy which will restrict how commissioners will be allowed to use technology to conduct public business and during meetings.

Allison Rogers, County Attorney drafted the new policy which states…“is to establish rules for the county commissioner’s use of technology to ensure they conduct themselves in a responsible, professional, ethical and efficient manner, with an eye toward the public’s perception of their elected officials”.

It is common to see commissioners use their RIM Blackberry smartphone to send messages, and their laptops as well, but basically with the new policy in place they will be forbidden from using a BlackBerry, a laptop or any other mobile phone during commission meetings.
