There are a few things that mobile phones can activate, and there is the odd unexpected thing a mobile phone activates that you would never dream of happening, and this is something you wouldn’t normally expect.

According to The New York Times, Andrei Melnikov’s oven was activated by means of his ringing mobile phone according to some trial and error tests done by Melnikov and his apartment super.

Maytag, the makers of the Magic Chef oven called the situation “highly unusual” and put the blame for the occurrence on electromagnetic interference. Furthermore this may not be just a one off, as the NYT say preliminary experiments confirm different brands of mobile phones can activate multiple models of Maytag ovens.
