Verizon Undermined: Nortel Gets Court Approval for Avaya Deal

Under: Phone Business & Stocks
Date: September 18th, 2009

We reported not too long ago that Avaya was making a play for the bankrupt communications equipment manufacturer, Nortel Network, which can be viewed (here). Well yesterday, Nortel Networks gain court permission to sell their telephone service unit to Avaya reports the NYT.

This court approval undermines a move by Verizon block the deal, as Verizon has for some time resold Nortel Networks equipment and software, including to virtually every department in the federal government, military and civilian.

The word is Verizon is concerned that Avaya will not assume contracts Verizon holds with Nortel Networks to deliver maintenance, support and repair services for said software and equipment.
