Poll: Can Intel Atom based smartphones be the future?

Under: Phone Polls, Phone Software Date: September 24th, 2009

big1

We all know that the Intel Atom currently dominates the netbook market, but where do smartphones fit in? it appears they have some pretty big major plans there too.

With their Moorestown system on a chip and Moblin OS available in early 2010 this will surely give them a push in the right direction for their march towards market domination.

System on a chip or SoC means that all the chips with all the various functions normally found on a computer’s motherboard have all been crammed into one single chip. Saving both power and of course space a necessity for mobile devices. Both Moblin and Maemo are Linux variants, the former developed by Intel ands the latter developed by Nokia for ARM processors.
