Verizon Wireless is now beginning to push out the long awaited OS 5.0.0.328 to BlackBerry desktop Manager for the BlackBerry Storm 9530 reports an article on Crackberry.
BlackBerry OS 5.0 delivers some significant changes to the operating system and should fix several issues some BlackBerry Storm 9530 owners have been experiencing.

After installing the application I was very impressed with the , flip scross, sms, overall speed, pictures, faster browser. although in landscape mode I have the left and right side all white and there is no possible way I can view or use the landscape mode. Not happy and really not sure what to do?
I also have the problem with the white bars on the sides. The first time it booted it worked fine. Also, the yahoo mail icon is not there any longer, just a generic mailbox icon.
I havent had that problem yet… Hopefully I don’t. I was just starting to want to get rid of this phone, so its a good thing this update came out. It was way to sluggish before and now seems to run much faster and is more visually appealing.
Having similar issues to both of you… Camera seems a lot faster which is great. Landscape mode is royally wrong, which is not so great. My Enhanced gmail isn’t working, in fact, my Email Setup Wizard seems to have disappeared all together.
If you are seeing the white bars I can assume you are running a theme. Themes right now were written for 4.7 not 5.0 so shortly this problem will be will fixed. A quick fix for now is to do this on home screen: BlackBerry Button/Options/Layout—–change layout to 3 rows and click save then change back to original layout and save again — This will fix the white bars. if you do a battery pull or the phone does a hard boot you will have to do this again until theme builders update themes.
Julie and Scott..try changing the theme to the default theme that came with your BB. I had some add on themes and the same thing happened with the other themes..white side..I changed it to the theme that came with the phone and all is fine right now..I suspect the theme sizes with have to be changed to adapt to the new software. Just an idea.
I had the same problem with the white bars in landscape. However, after i swapped themes back to the original Zen theme it works like a charm. A great upgrade. Been waiting for something like this.
The Storm is a great Smartphone. By far one of the Best Rated Smartphones on the market.
In regards to email, simply go to setup folder, email settings, highlight current account, delete, then set account up again….your old icon will return.
I am having the same issue with the white bars in landscape view. With that said, I have tried to reset the theme to the default and I get an error message “action aborted see device log for details” - huh?
I’m liking the update a lot, but am having an issue with the automatic dimmer option. I have it turned off, yet the screen still auto-dims based on the surrounding ambient light. Is anyone else having the same trouble?
I’ve tried hard reboots, turning the option on and back off again. Nothing seems to work.
I downloaded the new O.S for the storm (1) last nite. It was not too hard, with the aid of my computer. Afters everything was set up i did a hard reset for my phone and it was working amazingly. Everything was crisp, and brought new life to my phone again. I am a bb enthusiast so this was a nice change of pace for me. especially since the launch of the storm 2 tomorrow. I love the sms/mms messaging platform, its cleaner than the old version. your inbox is not cluttered from every response, and new message. Emails are set up the same way. I like the new “Today” homepage, it leaves the screen looking clean, and allows you to see important things at a glance w/o clicking. I have yet to figure out if you can change what appears on the screen thoe. Hopefully you can customize it. Locking and unlocking the screen w/o a password is easy. When an icon is selected, it zooms into view much like the iphone, a simple feature but nice touch. I know that the minds at the RIM headquarters are still conjuring up some new things, cant wait to see what is in store!
I did the update, and now when I use the SMS, the phone number is in the way and I can only see one line of the incoming text. Also the keyboard is alway in the way and I have to “Hide” it. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem of the white bars. When I changed to the theme that came with the phone it went away.
I was wonder how can I update 5.0 from my storm because I don’t have a computer right now.
I got the update last night and yes it makes the phone feel brand new but i had a few annoying issues with the change. Can someone tell me what to do with my volume key….right after the update, my volume key stopped working so i cannot turn up my volume but i can turn it down!
the new update is amazing the unlock is way faster. the camera no longer has a delay. the internet scrolls and loads faster. i can scroll through my song like the i touch amzing thanks bb!
I got 5.0 the other night and what a HUGE difference!!! I was getting so tired of my phone, and then my BB has redeemed itself. I love the scroll, the way the menu looks, and its faster too. I just fell in love with my phone again!!!!!
i get no “circuit/channel available” on my phone after the update when i call out. help please
I did the update and it is like i have a new phoen, exept for Pandora is not working properly. Is any one having the same problem???
The new 5.o.o.328 OS is on point! breaths new life into the storm1, other that the new sure press technology I cant see that much of a difference but Im still gonna check BBS2 out. I behind able to upgrade for two months but I have waitingplus the droid looks nice but Im hooked out BB and the Storm was th first I ever owned. Talk about growning pains lol.
Quick Pull Pro, even the special new beta for 5.0 .252 and up give error messages even after changing permission per Steelthorn instructions will not reboot the Storm. Anyone run into this issue?
The auto on/off function does not work in the new upgrade. It no longer turns off the phone. Any one has any sollution?
I am also having problems reading my sms because of the phone number blocking all but one line of text and I have to “hide keyboard” every time to read. any suggestions?
I am having the same problem with Pandora. Every song quicks playing with 26 seconds left. It is making me royally mad because i sit at a PC all day and stream Pandora all day. i’m getting sick of starting each song back after it stops. I also lost BB mesenger and can not get it to run. it downloads but then archives and will not allow me to run the program. way to go Verizon.
anybody know how to get Pandora working properly after the newest software update?
anyone else having issues with battery life? can’t get my battery to hold a charge for more than 8 hours. have two batteries so that leads me to believe it’s not that but the problem didn’t start until after the upgrade =(
I just reinstalled Pandora and it worked fine.
The BB Storm is by far the worst piece of hardware I ever purchased. Constant time consuming maintenance weekly. Constant. It never ends. Now after successfully installing 5.0, when my Storm sits idle for about 10 minutes or so the screen goes blank and never recovers. The four buttons light up but no screen. If you push the blank screen it begins executing whatever icon you are touching but you don’t see anything and you don’t know what icons are on the screen. I can’t get the screen back. I usually have to pull the battery. This happens all day long. I hate the device. I think it is time to give up and throw it in the trash.
I upgraded to the 5.0 os, and the hyperlinks on my email don’t work, and gmail notifier only appears in portrait. Help
all the same problems as everyone love the phone and update, camera functionality is like night and day. I am going to hate having to wait for all the app creators to update all the apps. my quickpull no longer works big bummer i tried the newest update but keep getting the error mess when trying to reset. any help?
*As for pandora mine did the same thing when you open pandora and are on the main screen when playing a song hit the bb menu button and choose update available update to new version and it will work just fine.
i hate i am going to have to wait on the theme updates that could be a while there are a lot out there.
I just downloaded 5.0 and have absolutely no problems what so ever with any of the apps. Pandora works great, no white lines, MMS, SMS, EMAIL all work fine although I do agree about the phone number being in the way when in SMS but its no biggie. The upgrade is a plus and my phone is lightning fast now.

I have the same problem with the themes in landscape mode with the white bars on the side. It also duplicates all the icons when you go up or down in the landscape mode. It’s very frustrating as I have a custom made theme and also another one - which I paid good money for both and cannot use either of them. The one that came with the phone works just fine. The person who I bought the custom one from said to wait for a “Patch”…..I’m still waiting.
Same problem with the Email Setup icon. HOW DO I GET IT BACK??
