Google Voice enables users to retain own phone number

The guys at Google have now introduced a new feature to their Google Voice whereby customers won’t need to switch to a special phone number, reports Reuters.

Apparently Google has stated that new users of the Google Voice service will be able to have unanswered calls forwarded to a Google Voice electronic mailbox, thus basically bypassing the voicemail provided by heir mobile phone carrier.

Originally Google Voice needed a special Google phone number, now with the new feature that is no longer required and customers can retain their existing number. Group product manager for real time communications at Google, Craig Walker has said Google will supply a special code which is entered into the mobile phone to forward unanswered calls to a Google voicemail box.
