OpenGL ES Support for BlackBerry Announces RIM

Under: BlackBerry, Phone Software
Date: November 11th, 2009

BlackBerry smartphone maker research In Motion has announced they have delivered more enhancements to the BlackBerry Application Platform among which is support for the upcoming Java GUI builder, OpenGL ES, and the launch of BlackBerry Theme Studio reports softpedia.

OpenGL ES delivers to developers the possibility to create 3D graphics and games for BlackBerry smartphones although said games would only be supported by OS 5.0 and above, and RIM has said that the current beta version of BlackBerry Java SDK includes OpenGL ES support.

The Java GUI builder that will be included in BlackBerry Java Plug-in for Eclipse will offer developers an easy way to construct interfaces for their apps, and RIM say devs can enjoy fast creation of user interfaces using a what-you-see-is-what-you-get view with new drag-and-drop capabilities. The Java GUI should be available in mid 2010.

The BlackBerry Theme Studio will have a suite of theme design, animation and illustration tools which enables the creation of themes for BlackBerry handsets and if available for free and themes will work on handsets that have OS 4.2.2 and above such as the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and Storm 2.
