Verizon and AT&T Leave Sprint Behind

There seems to be a new mobile phone hitting the streets every week these days and over in the US there seems to be two mobile companies that seem to be running full steam ahead while the other companies simply fall further back reports an article over on minyanville.

Of course the two that seem to be soaring ahead are Verizon Wireless (Droid) and AT&T (iPhone) according to Craig Moffett, an analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein.

Sprint has announced they are to trim $350 million in costs by losing up to 2500 workers with the job losses set to begin by the end of the year across the company; however Sprint management say the reduction is due to improvements in customer satisfaction and thus reduces the need for customer service reps.

Moffet says that AT&T and Verizon are increasingly pulling away from the pack and the gap between the wireless have and wireless have-nots is widening while the stark difference between the haves and have-nots shows clearly in financial reports.

Sprint lost 936,000 prepaid and post-paid customers during Q3 resulting in their customer base now standing at 48 million customers. In contrast both AT&T and Verizon added to their customer base with AT&T expanding by 2 million totalling 81.6 million and Verizon added 1.2 million bringing their total to 89 million.

Sprint is not falling behind in handsets or network coverage. Been a customer of V, T and S. currently with S. The coverage and customer service is excellent now and the only phone missing from their line up is the i-phone. If you are going to blog, please get the facts… And yes, Sprint has less customers and also enabled customers to get service on the web without calling into care, so in turn less care agents are needed… duh! You forgot to mention Sprint is bigger/better than t-mobile, and they are in last place with everything they do…They actually do suck.

No bias from the author at all. The Droid hasn’t even proven itself yet and Sprint has the Samsung Moment, HTC Hero, Palm Pre, and in a few days the Palm Pixi. Sprint has a great lineup and the author here shows he has no understanding of the industry.

1.) Sprint launched two new Android devices this quarter to rave reviews (ahead of Verizon’s Android Launch)
2.) AT&T and VZW lay people off too. Sometimes in large numbers, that goes very unreported unless I assume you live in NY or TX.

Article seems to be another Sprint bash – good job on 1/2 of the facts.

My Sprint Blackberry Tour lost data services on top of other issues and needs to be replaced. After three calls to Sprint customer service at over 30 min each, over two days, and after TWO visits to Sprint stores that could not help me in an acceptable manner, I am fed up with Sprint and as soon as I figure out where to go, i'[m gone. I've been loyal to them since Nextel days in the 1990's. I like international coverage but surely someone else has that too. Who has good quick easy customer service?
