Four Facilities Closing and 2000 job Losses with Sony Ericsson

Although apparently Sony Ericsson hasn’t gone public with this bit of news yet, according to an article over on engadget mobile, Sony Ericsson is about to shut up a few shops and lay off a few people due to pressure in the mobile phone market place.

Back in September last year, Sony Ericsson shed 450 workers and the word is now their Research Triangle Park facility is being shutdown, and Sony Ericsson is ready to close 4 of their sites.

The other 3 sites being closed are the Miami facility, the RTP in North Carolina, and operations in Kista Sweden and Chennai; this means that a total of 2000 workers will find themselves jobless, but severance package will be offered to those who qualify.

Sony Ericsson hasn’t chosen who will go as yet but those employed at RTP will be given the chance to apply for employment elsewhere such as California and Atlanta, and apparently said cut will take place in stages.
