Customer Private Data Sold by T-Mobile Employee

Customer Private Data Sold by T-Mobile Employee

Under: Phone Business & Stocks
Date: November 19th, 2009

T-Mobile UK has confirmed that an employee has illegally sold on customer data to third party rivals and has confirmed they have informed the Information Commissioner’s Office with a view to prosecuting the employee reports Reuters

Christopher Graham, the Information Commissioner has said the data was sold for substantial quantities of money to brokers working for other mobile phone firms and plans to prosecute and will push for a custodial sentence for anyone who is convicted.

Apparently details of T-Mobile UK’s customer’s phone contracts including mobile phone numbers, names, and agreement expiry dates were sold on by T-Mobile staff which is in breach of data protection laws.

So it would seem yet another scandal over data hits T-Mobile; I am a T-Mobile customer myself and don’t really like the idea that an employee could easily sell on my personal data to anyone, so maybe it’s time T-Mobile tightened up on security.
