This December Android 2.1

Under: Phone Software
Date: December 8th, 2009

It seems that the awaited update from Google is on it’s way, although the exact date is still unconfirmed it is said to be either December 10th or December 11th as was announced by Techradar.

Apparently the new version 2.1 is not going to change the world, but it will be sure to add many useful features to the Android 2.0 starting as you may well expect with fixing the annoying bugs. It was assumed originally that the 2.1 would launch alongside an update to the Android application store this was already launched just recently.

Google have remained rather secretive on this, which is a little strange as the let everyone know on versions 1.5 Cupcake and 1.6 Donut. The Éclair was kept secret for a while though, just Motorola had access which is why they are the only company to release a 2.0 device this Christmas.

Version 1.5 can easily be updated, and a recent report indicated that HTC Hero which has version 1.5 Cupcake will be fully compatible with the 2.1 update effectively skipping over the two newer versions.
This makes for some promising news for upcoming Android devices and in particular the XPERIA X10
