Nokia confident as buyers flood in for free satellite navigation offering

Last month Nokia the worlds largest mobile phone maker took a leaf out of Google’s book and also decided to offer free satellite navigation on its phones.

Initially this raised concern as to how the service unit would be able to reach their 2 billion Euro sales target for 2011. Having that initial concern seems to somehow disappeared now as so far Nokia have said that some 3 million customers have downloaded the free service.

Nokia’s service unit chief Niklas Savander has commented that he is more confident now than he was previously about the revenue target being achievable, navigation is expected to account for 50% of its services unit revenue.

In recent times Nokia has concentrated on trying to build up its services offering, The Comes with Music offering which bundles music download service and a phone, is focusing on the emerging markets. The plan is that Nokia aim to achieve 300 million active users for the various services in 2011. Source – reuters.com
