Ads in BlackBerry Emails Patent Filed by RIM

It appears that BlackBerry maker, Research In Motion is looking at placing adverts into emails according to a recent patent application the BlackBerry maker has submitted to the patent office reports an article over on crackberry.

The RIM submission is worded thus “system and method of incorporating multimedia content into a message handheld by a mobile device,” basically meaning enabling a device to match phrases and keywords in messages to deliver adverts.

Apparently the submission also states that the message is modified to include such linking mechanisms that the user when viewing the modified message can reveal the multimedia content by selecting the linking mech.

Also apparently Research In Motion has submitted a patent which would enable RIM to see if any developer tries to circumvent the email advertising. However, there is no word as to if or when RIM will actually implement this email advertising.
