Video: HTC Droid Eris gets Rooted to 2.1

If you own a HTC Droid Eris smartphone and have been patiently waiting and waiting for the Big Red to give out an upgrade to Android 2.1 you may well be in luck as apparently the guys over at XDA Developers have rooted the HTC Droid Eris to 2.1.

Apparently if you are running the stock Android 1.5 operating system all one is required to do is drop a ZIP file onto your SD card and restart your Droid Eris; however they do stipulate that if your Droid Eris has already been flashed with the Eris 2.1 leak, this hack will not work.

Furthermore the guys haven’t worked out a way of restoring any non-1.5 handsets back to factory default, so you’ll need to proceed with care, and although you’ll gain HTC Sense UI you risk chaining your handset to an unsupported OS.

That said and done, we have a video demo for your viewing pleasure below of the Droid Eris 2.1 ROOT courtesy of the guys over at engadget, so hit it up and take a look-see.
