Steve Jobs Says No Porn Store for iPhone

Harping back to the subject of removing “overtly sexual” content from the iPhone App Store, during the iPhone OS 4.0 event, the co-founder of gdgt, Ryan Block asked Steve Jobs if there are any plans to allow unsigned apps onto the iPhone, reports an article over on techcrunch.

To that question, Steve Jobs answered… “You know, there’s a porn store for Android. You can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, your kids can download porn. That’s a place we don’t want to go — so we’re not going to go there.”

Which means there will be no unsigned apps on the iPhone and no lifting of the “overtly sexual” content ban. The article then goes on to state that this is a clear example of Apple’s hypocrisy as for years iTunes has sold tunes with explicit lyrics and films with nudity, and of course there is Safari which can access web porn sites.

Of course you can disable access to such sites with Safari’s parental controls but they say Apple could easily add such similar parental controls to restrict running unsigned applications. The reason they don’t is because they want to keep complete control over the iPhone and block apps from rivals.
