Sony Ericsson sales has dropped according to its report, sales were reported at €1.4bn for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010 compared to same period last year of €1.74bn, that is a drop of 19%.

Sony Ericsson shipped 10.5 million units in the same quarter, which is an increase of 28% compared to same period a year ago. For the quarter the average selling price rose 12% both sequentially and year-on-year to €134.

Sony Ericsson’s net income was €21m in the first quarter of 2010, compared to the same quarter last year it had a loss of €293m.

Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson, said: “Increases in both gross and operating margins show that we are on the right track to build the correct cost structure for our business organization and strategy. We will continue to work through the transformation programme to ensure that we are competitive.”

Can the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 boost sales? We know the smartphone market is a very competitive one, but SE really needs to pull something out of the bag to increases its sales.
