Mozilla Fennec pre alpha version for Android released

A Pre alpha version of Fennec which is also known as Firefox Mobile for Android has been released although a little bit lumpy it gives an idea of what we can expect from the final release according to an article over at bit-tech.net

The early release has been available for a while now for the Nokia N900 a Maemo based device, the pre alpha marks the first time users will actually be able to try out the mobile browser on Google’s Android platform.

The software is still in its early stages and it is worth remembering that, according to Mozilla’s Vladimir Vukiecevic and the memory usage of the build isn’t great. Basically it is a debug build which hasn’t had a lot of optimisation yet.

The Android Fennec has only really been tested on the Motorola Droid or the Milestone if your in Europe and Google’s own Nexus One. Vukiecevic has stated confidently that if you are willing to risk it, “it will likely not eat your phone” you’ll get a preview of what the mobile version of Firefox will be like.

So could Mozilla’s Fennec become the mobile browser of the future? If you are itching to give this a whirl and have an Android 2.0 or 2.1 handset then you can download the installation APK from here.
