HTC Droid Eris Android 2.1 Software Update via Verizon
The HTC Droid Eris is getting its Android 2.1 software update soon, which can be seen over on Verizon’s support page. Personally we would have the HTC Incredible buy hey that is your choice, this new update has been slated for release very soon.
The new Droid Eris software version ROM: 2.36.605.1/Radio: 2.42.00.04.12 update will give you many improvements and enhancements that should be very good for the user. Some of the main things to look out for is Pinch-to-zoom is now available when using the Gallery and Google Maps, New support for voice-to-text entry, New Leap thumbnail view and so much more.
Improvements have been made such as Free Yahoo! Mail is now supported, longer battery life, Improved YouTube video playback, Better Bluetooth, Automatic settings for POP3 verizon.net email accounts and a few more to boot.

It seems that the update took away the ability to use Facebook display pics as your contact’s pic in your address book. I loved that feature and I’m a little torqued that it isn’t working anymore. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Have you synced since you received the update? It worked for me. Also, all my contacts are google contacts. Maybe the bug is with phone contacts only?
I initially thought the same thing, but after playing around with the new settings I discovered that the option to link Facebook pictures to saved contacts is still available. What you do is: Once you select a saved contact, go to menu and then select "Link". The next screen will allow you to link Facebook pictures to your contact.
The weather feature does not work for me anymore. It's accurate on the front page but when I tap it to get more details an error comes up saying that there was a system error and it needs to force close.

Hey…If you synced your contacts with gmail (google account) then all u have to do is go into your contacts and refresh the page. I did that and my pics came right up..also for the weather thing..Mine works fine..maybe you have to do a hard reset (thats just taking the battery out for about 10 sec and put it back) it will reboot your systems….But so far so good on the software upgrade for me
All – I initially thought the same thing about using Facebook pics to a saved contact. This feature is actually still available. What you do is: pull up a saved contact, click on menu and then select “link”. This will allow you to then link the contact’s Facebook pic.
Yeah im having the facebook linked photos problem and also the weather problem. Im also getting an envelope with the letter i on it when i text.. anyone know what this means ?
I noticed an envelope popping up when I text that basically is a notification that the text message was transmitted successfully. I went into the text settings and disabled that.
Weather won’t update anymore when it does work. When try to adjust update settings won’t save them
FINALLY they fixed the calendar function. Now when I am seeing a screen of a specific day, and I want to see the day before or after I just have to slide my finger over it right or left. That was one of my biggest gripes about this phone. Now I wish they would me see the complete address and notes in my contacts.
I like the update. It did mess with some settings and preferences but I think the goodness of the update out weigh the bad. Most specifically I think the menu is easier to navigate. Market is better too. Good call! I am having the fb pic to contact issue and really don’t have time to go one by one and re link. The weather thing kinda irks me. But ill try to take battery out.

I keep getting "message sent succesfully" when I text. How do I turn off?
Also, I no longer have the clock/weather combo widget, the list of bookmarks I had as a widget (but it will let me add indiv. bookmarks to home page), the calendar widget no longer lets me place entire calendar on a home screen…. do you guys still have these widgets???
In terms of the calendar widget, you simply neeed to go to the screen you want to add it to, then do the long hold. When the add screen comes up, it is the calendar widget under HTC widget, not Android widget. The Android widget is only the day, but the HTC widget gives you the whole month like the old one.
I have lost all ability to use facebook since the reboot. And my weather doesn't work either. Has anyone figured out how to fix these problems?
My Eris doesn't work with my OBD II bluetooth device any more, after the 2.1 update. It pairs fine, but when you try to use it, the device conects and disconnect with in a second or so, over and over again. The OBD II still works fine with a laptop, so its not the device. I have tried un-pairing and re-pairing again. No go here.
I have the same problem. None of my contacts are sync to my Facebook. I have tried Menu then Link but nothing is working.
I just got this phone last week, I still have 1.5, anybody else with that issue?
