Android Features in General Motors New Chevrolet Volt

It appears that smartphones are getting mobile in more ways than just in your pocket as apparently Android OS maker Google has paired with General Motors Co to deliver new features for GM’s upcoming Chevrolet Volt which will combine Gm’s OnStar tech system with Google’s Android smartphone.

According to the article over on the WSJ by Sharon Terlep, more pairings between Google and General Motors are in the pipeline as GM looks to better leverage OnStar with a view to attracting younger purchasers says sources familiar with the matter.

According to General Motors, Chevrolet Volt owners that are using the OnStar information system along with the Android operating system can track their vehicle’s location on their Android powered smartphone and will also allow users to use Google voice recognition software for map directions to be delivered to the vehicle by OnStar’s navigation system.

General Motors are also planning in addition to Google features, several features which will join the Volt and OnStar with smartphones which will include the ability to monitor battery power and charge the vehicle remotely via a mobile handset.
