iPhone App launched by Argos retailer in UK

A great new iPhone application has been just launched by Argos in an attempt to become the de facto e commerce retailer within the UK.

The news comes from a report by Paul Skeldon over at internetretailing.net which confirms that the newly launched iPhone app from Argos will be forming part of the company’s mobile strategy.

The application will permit potential customers to browser the company’s 25,000 stock items also locate the closest store with the addition of being able to check availability and then reserve the item.

The application will not allow the customer to pay for the item over the air this is done on collection. Having said that the application remembers all the customer or users details so they will not need to re enter each time they visit the application.

  1. I hope that Argos has given significant thought to the implementation of this app, and isn't just seeing it as a gimmick. However, the signs are promising as the current multi-channel marketing efforts of the Argos catalogue are very effective indeed, eg: check and reserve. I just hope that Argos don't forgot about those of us without iPhones who would like something similar for other platforms, eg: Windows Mobile or Android.
