iPhone 4G Release Excites but what will 5G bring us?

Well folks no doubt later today the mobile world will be afire with all things Apple as today WWDC 2010 begins, and it is, as rumours has it, expected that Apple chief, Steve Jobs will take centre stage at the keynote and officially announce the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 4G.

Whether iPhone 4G will be the official name of the next generation device remains to be seen, but most in the mobile arena expect it to happen, and also expect the iPhone 4G to become available the same day, again speculation, but we’ll know for sure later on in a few hours time.

The potential release of the iPhone 4G obviously has generated a great deal of excitement amongst the mobile crowd, and today will undoubtedly be iPhone 4G day, whether that be elation over the release or disappointment in it not happening.

If all the leaks and rumours are correct we already know most about the iPhone 4G thanks to the great Gizmodo iPhone 4G leak, but there is also a new device in town that has snatched some of the usual iPhone glory, namely the HTC EVO 4G which currently is smashing the iPhone 4G in our popularity poll (here)

So if the HTC EVO 4G can keep a commanding lead over the iPhone 4G once it’s released, Apple will have to do some serious thinking about how to grab back their smartphone glory next year when they come up with the iPhone 5G.

Yes all a bit early to be speaking of an iPhone 5G I know, but with the advancement of the 4G networks, and the dominance of 4G by the HTC EVO 4G, the iPhone 4G could potentially quickly become an out of date device, and if so, Apple would need to push out a 4G network surfing iPhone 5G handset to keep pace or be left behind.

I can’t see Apple trailing behind in the mobile game so potentially the iPhone 5G should now be in the works, but what else can Apple bring with the iPhone 5G that would be new and exciting to the mobile arena? If you have any ideas on what the iPhone 5G could potentially bring us, then feel free to let us know be posting in our comments area below, many thanks.

It is patently ridiculous for you people to keep calling this Apple phone "4G" when it doesn't have the ability to connect to a 4G network. You are misleading your readers.

        1. Urdumb says:

Actually you're the idiot. It's iPhone 4 not 4G. They aren't labeled like the iPods dummy. You're gonna feel stupid when iPhone 4G comes out next year then what will you call that? Stupid.

u TWAT. its oPhone 4G 4th Generation. they called it iPhone 4 instead of 4G. get it right!

          2. Kartik says:

I am not sure if you know what a 4G phone is, but the new iphone is NOT a 4G phone!!! IT cannot connect to a 4G network!

runnnn grammer nazi but i agree its iphone 4 4th gen

iphone 3g was a play on words ( and numbers) its 3rd gen and its got 3g internet

it also annoys me when they call ipod touch itouch wtf that sounds stupid

Thank you, KarenF! It is an iPhone 5, which will perform on a 4G network. Period. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 5G NETWORK…yet…and no iPhone 4G. The iPhone 4 performs on a 3G network. The iPhone 5 will most likely perform on a 4G network.

If you want 4G performance, you'll have to go with a company other than Apple.

After reading all these rumors regarding the release of the new iPhone 5, I doubt most of them are true and will enjoy purchasing an iPhone 4 until then.

WISH LIST FOR IPHONE 5G=Upgradeable MEMORY slot, OLED touch screen, dual processors, tethering, 8MP camera or higher, 32GB and 64GB models, solar power charging battery option, 3D viewing screen, etc…

    1. Gann says:

      Apple – Upgradable memory… I don't see it
OLED isn't as good a resolution
Dual processors would be overkill on a phone,
      8MP – very possible
      64GB should be there
Solar – eh, techs not sound enough for apple yet

So my theory on what you might wanna add… a Transformer.

I am expecting the iphone 4G coming, but I am a little worry about whether my iPhone 3G apps also work well on the new version, here is my apps list on my iPhone now:

Shazam- a free music application tells you what songs you’re listening to, what artist sings it, and where to buy it.

Winx DVD to iPhone Ripper-convert the DVD content to iPhone

Google App for the iPhone- I use this to search my phone for items such as Contacts, Applications, etc.

eReader-I use it to download ebooks directly to my iPhone.

WeatherBug-offers sooooo many worldwide locations whether. Totally satisfy even the most traveled users.

So what shall I do for the iPhone new version? I guess, I will save my money every day for preparing iPhone 4G release day. Good luck for me~

    1. Gann says:

All of the iPhone apps are supposed to be ready to go for the new iPhone. However, most will be compatible and updated and ready to go within a week or so.

How is he a retard. Calling it a 4g is misleading.

When the 3g came out it would be a second generation, so your wrong. When the 3gs it would have been a third generation. So how can this be, why was the 3g not called 2g. You seem like the retard. And this one is called 4 not 4g and the reason it’s not is because it’s not 4g.

Understand, that you are the true retard

    1. you are right its called the iphone 4 not 4g people assume its 4g because of the iphone 3gs as it is connected to the signal 3g…so people just assume…if you notice on the apple website and around stores it is called iphone 4 not iphone 4g

  5. the iphone 5 could have some sort of detection like a key finder incase the phone is misplaced or missing.
it should have bluetooth and infared because it is annoying having to connect to a laptop or computer when you want to send things to the iphone especially when you have the ability to send things via phone to phone.

  6. dynasty says:

iphone 5 should have same features as iphone 4, jus add 8mp camera…increase memory, and kome out wit da 4g network…faster processor too

  7. DALLAS KIM says:

THE NEW IPHONE 5 SHOULD BE DESIGNED LIKE AN 'S' LINE. STILL THIN BUT FLAT SIDES SO WE CAN HAVE A FIRM GRASP…BUT THE TOP ON AND BOTTOM END SHOULD SHARPEN OUT AT A SLIGHT ANGLE. THE TOP PART SHOULD ROUND OFF AWAY FROM THE EAR MAKING IT MORE COMFORTABLE TO HOLD AGAINST YOUR EAR FOR LONG CONVERSATIONS, AND THE BOTTOM END SHOULD ROUND OUT ON THE BACK SIDE, THUS THE 'S' LINE CONCEPT. COOL, NEW, PRACTICAL, AND 'S'EXY. ^^ SO WHADYA THINK? OR BACK TO THE 3G DESIGN, BUT LIL MORE THINNER. I KINDA LIKED THE EGG SHAPE 3G. THE NEW 4G IS KINDA BLAH. JUST A BOX SHAPE. BORING. BUT ALAS, I'M NOT THE DESIGNER. HOPEFULLY WHATEVER THE NEW DESIGN IS IT WILL BE FLAWLESS, WITH NO ANTENNA PROBLEMS AND SUCH.
