iPhone 4 is Shipping Early?

Well for those who managed to get their pre-order for the new iPhone 4 in on time they can expect their new Apple toy to ship as of the 24th of June. However it appears that maybe Apple has decided not to wait until that date.

According to Jason Chen over at Gizmodo, they have received several tips that the iPhone 4 is actually shipping early out to pre-order customers, with one of their readers called George sending Gizmodo the shipping notification letter from the Apple Store.

Said letter states that his iPhone 4 has been shipped and to expect delivery on the 23rd of June; which of course is a day early than the expected date, and apparently other readers are getting the same notification.

We aren’t sure if this is happening across the board, but if any of our readership who slapped in their pre-order and have received notification they will be getting their iPhone 4 earlier than the 24th, feel free to shout out and let us know.

I couldn't believe either! But I just received an e-mail from the Apple Store:
    Dear Apple Store Customer,

You recently received a Shipment Notification email from Apple advising you that your iPhone has shipped.

This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.

In the event that you will not be available to accept delivery on June 23rd, it may be more convenient to use our pre-sign delivery option by visiting our Order Status website at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

    Sincerely,

    The Apple Store Team

I placed a Pre-order online via the Apple website on 6/15 around 1:00 PM PST.

I pre-ordered an iPhone 4 and recieved a shipping confirmation email yesterday that did have the expected delivery date set for this Wednesday, June 23rd before 10:30 am. I won’t know untill Wednesday if I’ll actually be getting my phone early or not but I have found similar stories on the web, as well as stories of some shipping dates being pushed back as far as mid July.

Unless this is some sort of spoof email meant to confuse people, I got it too, and I preordered for delivery:

Apple site was not working between 7-8 a.m. Eastern on day of pre-oreder. I had to revert to AT&T site to order, I have not received this notice. Wish I did. I ordered pretty early.

UPDATE! : Checked order status on AT&T and it says shipped with tracking number. Went to FedEx site and sure enough, mines is in transit with a scheduled delevery of June 23rd before 3 p.m. !

I think it has to do with the customs process and Apple/AT&T were more prepared for their available 600,000 this year from last year's craze, but still couldn't meet the demands of the market. I too got my expected delivery of 6/23 and won't know if it's legit until tomorrow or not, but it can't be bogus if it's on the FedEx truck ready for delivery at my local hub. I am 100% confident this was intentional to create more craze for pre-orders when they inevitably launch a new model in June 2011 (it just might be a craze for alternate carriers as well). Apple is a marketing genius and I wouldn't put it past good 'ole Steve to give people who pre-ordered "special" service. Cheers!
