Nokia Goes with MeeGo for N-series smartphones, Dumps Symbian^3

In a bid to regain lost market share, Nokia has now apparently ditch Symbian in favour of MeeGo for their high end Nokia N-series handsets and the last Nokia device to sport Symbian^3 will be the Nokia N8.

According to an article over on Mobile Today, Nokia has said in a statement…”As we have previously said, Symbian is enabling us to bring smartphones to more and more people and ensures scale for our solutions and services, and for developers. The Nokia N8 is our most advanced smartphone based on the new Symbian^3.”

Ben Wood, an anlyst for CCS Insight has said that “Meego is the cornerstone of Nokia’s fightback in the high end market. For Nokia to compete in this sector it needs to go beyond where Symbian takes it today.”

Wood also confirmed that Symbian^3 will still play a key roll in Nokia’s strategy as it is still a massively important part of Nokia’s business and delivers the biggest proportion of sales in terms of revenue.
