iPhone 4 Antenna Problem Software Fix, Will it work?

As most already know the iPhone 4 is having quite a problem with losing reception when held in such a way that the black strip between the iPhone 4 antenna on the lower left-hand side of the device is covered causing reception to drop.

Apparently Apple has issued a statement that a software fix for the antenna problem is on its way, and you can read that article by going (here), but on reading Apple’s letter they say the problem is with how many bars are displayed and due to the wrong formula the incorrect amount of bars are shown.

Apple also states that “Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars.”

So basically everyone who is experiencing the iPhone 4 issue is in a weak signal area presumably covered by AT&T’s crap network, (lesson to be learnt Apple, give iPhone to Verizon). But will a software fix solve the holding the iPhone 4 problem, or will it just show that signal strength is low in the first place, and reception still drop when holding the device so that the antenna black strip is covered?

I mean I’m no wireless expert but apparently if you use an Apple bumper case so you don’t touch the black strip the problem apparently goes away, but even if Apple pushes out a software update it still doesn’t stop a user from covering the black strip does it? What are our reader’s views on this; will a software update solve this iPhone 4 issue?

well well well, lets be honest, Apple prematurely released this phone as a quick response to th leakage of the prototype. As all apple fans would say …its a marvelous device. It is but it doesnt mean that apple could eyewash us with BS. The problem isnt that apple has a problem, Apple forces us to buy the iphone through lengthy contracts with phone providers. Do you think that is fair when they know all along that they have a problem. I think this needs to be rectified before they go any further. at least offer all customers with the problem free apple CASESthat supp. solves the problem.

I agree with everything that has been "Sam". I won't be buying this phone now.
It was indeed rushed to market and they counted on Apple Kool Aid drinkers to consume whatever they threw at them ,no matter if it was ready or not……… and clearly it's not.,and I despise the fact that initially Jobs issued a statement when confronted with a customer who outlined the problem…"Well then don't hold it that way".Seems they have been FORCED to release a "fix" rather than honestly acknowledging that there was a problem from the word go and dealing with it without the attitude they had.
Apple produce good products .and thats not the issue.I can't stand their arragance.
